Probably the most recognised Scottish castle - not least because BBC
Scotland use it in their advertisements. Certainly one of the most
spectacular. This shot was taken in the early morning so I could beat the German
tourists.
The castle is now connected to the mainland by a causeway. It was
once accessible only by boat - now that is what I call a defensible position.
If Eilean Donan is not the best known Scottish castle, then this must be
it. Built right on the shore of the loch it is most often seen as the backdrop in
one of the most famous pictures of "Nessie".
A closer shot of the remains of the keep. The handrails are a
modern addition!
A much more interesting subject to my eye than the castle, this window
is in sight of the castle gates.
I spotted this one driving from Fort William to Skye. I love the
way Scottish clouds hang low for dramatic effect.
Glencoe is also known as The Weeping Glen. An eerie and
magnificant place. Many ghosts walk here.
This shot more accurately reflects the gloomy feeling of Glencoe.
This keep can be seen in the distance from the ramparts of Stirling
Castle. I have no idea what it is actually called but I consider it sufficiently
fantastical to dub it the Dragon Tower.

The bridge was formally opened by the Prince of Wales on 5 March 1890.
What can I say? It was a nice place for lunch. Sausage sandwiches, I think. |
